Removing Annual Rye from Standard Seed Blends

Aug 03, 2021
Due to the aggressive nature of most annual rye (Lolium multiflorum) varieties on the turf/forage market, we are no longer recommending use of annual rye as a nurse crop with most of our native seed mixes. In the past months, we have noticed more seedings in which the annual rye has survived through the winter and become overly-aggressive and out-competing the native species below. We will be increasing the amount of seed/spring oats (Avena sativa) to compensate for the removal of annual rye.
